The Children’s Services program provides a special needs advisory committee for parents who are posted with special needs children to get involved in and discuss gaps in services, ways the TMFRC can best support their family while posted in Toronto. We are also starting up a special needs support group in the fall of 2011 to further provide opportunities for connecting these families and their children and sharing their successes and challenges.
The Children’s services program offers casual child care where integration of special needs children has been successfully done. This program offers respite for the family every Mon, Wed and Fri from 8:00-4:00. This program becomes full time in the summer to accommodate moving times.
The contact for the Children’s Services program is Cathy Turalinski who works in conjunction with the PSI coordinator to accommodate the various needs families may have moving to a new place with a special needs child. Information re: enrolling a child with special needs into the school system in Toronto is also available from the Children’s Services program. Identification of a child with a potential diagnosis can be facilitated by both PSI coordinator and Child & Youth & Parenting Program Supervisor.
