Community Living BC (CLBC) delivers support and services to people with developmental disabilities, children with special needs and their families in British Columbia. The BC government provides a brochure explaining the intake process for child and youth mental health, including regional and local contact information. There is also a Teen Depression Self Help Tool, which can be used by teens across the country.

This specialized multidisciplinary team for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders is the provincial resource for diagnosis and assessment. The team offers educational sessions for families and the community. In addition, there is ongoing research into autism.

BCAAN, a program of the Provincial Health Services Authority, is responsible for assessing and diagnosing children who may have autism. The goal of BCAAN is to provide timely assessment and diagnosis within reasonable distance of the child’s home. BCAAN includes specialists and health care professionals throughout BC.

Vancouver Coastal Health Authority - Health Information Centre

The Health Information Centre can refer a patient experiencing a health concern and requiring service to the appropriate service. If you have a concern about your child's health or development or if they require services such as speech therapy or immunization call the phone number above and they will be able to direct to the appropriate service.

 

Canadian Diabetes Association - Youth On It

Young people living with diabetes face many hurdles as they move into adulthood. Youth On It, a first-of-its-kind resource spearheaded by the Canadian Diabetes Association, seeks to help make the transition a little easier. Funded by the Law Foundation of BC, the Youth On It guide addresses issues faced by young people living with diabetes. The free information booklet targets 16-24-year-olds and covers topics ranging from employment and education, to advocacy, healthcare and insurance.
